The Nurse Educator - Behavioral Health is responsible for assisting with the onboarding new hires onto the unit as well as the continued necessary education provided to staff on the unit throughout the year. Collaborates with appropriate associates, managers, community members, physicians, outside agencies to provide educational programs based on assessment of learning needs as identified by survey, testing, document reviews, risk management, peer reviews and/or identified needs of staff or management. This position also provides direct patient care and staff supervision when assigned by management. Provides annual competency validation on all units and assisting to ensure the educational foundation is consistent with successful onboarding and regulatory requirements. Nurse educators also supports an organizational culture for safety and Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence standards to all customer groups.

Duties:

  • Demonstrates educational leadership collaboratively to integrate services and functions for proper patient care and safety throughout Aurora Pavilion. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance of management, clinical, and/or support services.
  • Facilitates competency evaluation, overall orientation assignments, unit orientation and the preceptor program as assigned.
  • Utilizes clinical and leadership experience and expertise to facilitate, measure, evaluate, and interpret care needs of patients and performance of staff to achieve the highest quality of care to patients served.
  • Provides departmental leadership through annual and ongoing goal development and evaluation related to action plans.
  • Maintains facility compliance with regulatory standards for TJC, state, etc..
  • Promotes and maintains standards of nursing care.
  • Participates in and promotes professional networking and is involved in community and company-based activities.
  • Participates in satisfaction of unit customers to include patients, families, employees and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to identified issues.
  • Provides direction and consultation to unit/department preceptors, CEO, CNO, House Supervisors and other Aurora departmental leaders regarding review and revision of unit orientation and policy updates/changes.
  • Assists in the maintenance of associate's education records on competencies and credentialing.
  • Works with other educators to development cross-functional programs within Aiken Regional and Aurora Pavilion.
  • Maintains CEU's necessary to meet requirements and serve as a model for staff.
  • Works within Intake and Staff as assigned to aide in patient care and learn practices that need to be reviewed for competency.
  • Consistently exercises appropriate judgment and discretion in the provision of duties.
  • Coordinates and teaches BLS and CPI and other trainings as appropriate.
  • Participates and coordinates with staff development on student rotations, education offerings, and orientation.
  • Assists nurses to increase their skills in assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of patient care through individual instruction, In-service education, and patient care conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Experience: Three to five years similar nursing experience, education experience preferred.

License or Registration Requirements: Current SC Nursing license. BLS required.

Training: CPI training upon hire.
