Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is responsible for managing functions related to student success outside of the classroom. The mission of the division is to encourage students to be engaged citizens through enriching their personal and professional development in a diverse and inclusive community of care. Departments that are part of the Division of Student Affairs include: Career and Professional Development, Military Affiliated Services, Recreation and Wellness, Housing and Residence Life, Student Health Services, Counseling Center, Leadership and Civic Engagement, Intercultural Engagement, Office of Accessibility Resources and Services, Dean of Students, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Elliott University Center, and Campus Activities and Programs.
Position Summary
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students ( AVC/ DOS) reports to the Vice Chancellor and is a member of the division's senior leadership team. The AVC/ DOS provides strategic direction for the division's health and wellbeing programs, and oversees student crisis management for the campus. The AVC provides oversight and guidance for the following departments: Dean of Students (including Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities); Office of Accessibility Resources and Services; Recreation and Wellness; Military Affiliated Services; and Student Health Services (including Counseling Center). The position also co-chairs the Behavioral Assessment Team, oversees the CARE Team and provides direct support and oversight for student crisis incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a master's degree in higher education administration or other related area, and a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in higher education with at least three of those years directing a department or functional area within Student Affairs.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
A doctorate degree in higher education administration or other related area is strongly preferred. Candidates should have experience in a Dean of Students Office and/or with managing student crisis, behavioral threat assessment, and with student well-being areas. Candidates should have a working understanding of related legal and compliance issues; an understanding of practices and policies related to student conduct and behavioral intervention; and knowledge of best practices related to student wellbeing and success.
Candidates should possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven record of achieving results in collaboration with others; building successful teams; and mentoring professionals and students. Candidates should also have experience working with diverse campus environments and possess an understanding of how to create engaging environments.
