THE POSITION

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and interested in library services? The Department of Education is in search of a Map Inventory Assistant to help with inventorying, assessing, cataloging, and describing maps and atlases held within the collections of the State Library. This position offers a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes with specialized collections that support research, education, and public access to information. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Map Inventory Assistant, you will be working with reports generated from the catalog in order to conduct a complete physical inventory of maps and atlases in the State Library's collection. You will be responsible for assisting with cataloging items located in the physical inventory that are not in the Library's catalog, creating holdings and barcodes items. This position gives you the opportunity to assess the condition, content, and relevance of the maps and atlases, and recommend actions to the Collections Management Librarian including but not limited to withdrawal, rehousing, digitizing, or moving to rare collections. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the physical move of maps and atlases recommended for rehousing, placing in folders or flat storage and updating catalog locations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited term, part-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of library - clerical experience; or
  • One year as a Library Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
  • An associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science may be substituted for the required experience.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
