This position is located at the Dundalk Marine Terminal.
This Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 203-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore. MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. The Port of Baltimore plays an integral role as an economic generator and job creator, in addition to maintaining our nation's supply chain and moving vital goods to industries and consumers. As one of the nation's top ports for total cargo tonnage and overall dollar value of cargo, the Port of Baltimore is also one of the most diverse ports in the United States with over 140,000 jobs in Maryland lined to the port.

General Role Description
MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Carpentry Professional to join its Operations Division as a Carpenter. This position will be responsible for renovations, building inspections, graphic sign production/installation, locksmithing, as well as the installation/repair of beams, sea Guards, man docks, doors and cabinetry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Creating and installing signs and banners.
Repairing, maintaining, and installing all types of doors and windows, including overhead garage doors.
Repairing wharves and sea guards at marine terminals.
Performing general building maintenance, such as roof, gutter, siding, and painting work.
The current vacancy exits at the Dundalk Marine Terminal. This position reports directly to Skilled Trade Supervisor I.

Qualifications
-
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing skilled trade work in the area of Carpenter.

This includes, but is not limited to, full or parttime, volunteer, military, acting capacity, or any other experience that is relevant to the position you are applying for.
If you have held more than one (1) position at the same employer, please list each position that you held and the length of time that you held each position.
Notes:
Additional work experience performing skilled trades as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications

- Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. All applicants MUST list their driver's license number and expiration date on the application.
- During the probationary period, employees will be required to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for Hazardous Materials valid in the State of Maryland.
- Employees in this classification will be required to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to gain unescorted access to Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration facilities.
Employees will be required to satisfy the agency's training and certification requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.

Additional Notes:
Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as maybe required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and are subject to call-in.
- Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements.
- Employees who work with, or may be exposed to, hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and maybe required to pass hazardous materials training and can wear a respirator.
- Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters.
- Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
- Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
