DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Air Quality Engineer, you will serve as a team leader in the Technical Support Section of the Bureau of Air Quality, Division of Permits which prioritizes the implementation of permitting provisions for the federal Clean Air Act (CAA), PA Air Pollution Control Act (APCA), and other regulations adopted under these acts. You will guide the development of comprehensive permitting criteria in addition to developing General Plan Approvals and General Operating Permits for various source categories. You will also provide assistance to regional permitting staff in the determination of case-specific control technology requirements, as well as conduct technology assessments considering factors such as energy, environmental, and economic impacts. Additional areas of focus include drafting reports and answers to questions on Pennsylvania's permitting programs; drafting responses to requests from private industry, the public, regional personnel, or other governmental agencies, providing information on air pollution control or ambient air impacts from air contamination sources; and reviewing and preparing draft comments on proposed rules, regulations, policies, procedures, air-quality standards, and legislation for potential impacts on the air quality permitting program. - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the Rachel Carson Building in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $75,658.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as an Air Quality Engineering Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering; or
- Four years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Three years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Graduate study in chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
