Coordinator, Student Communications - Central Campus

FUNCTION: The Student Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and producing all student messaging for the entire organization, with the focus on enhancing student engagement and success. The coordinator will facilitate student communication request workflows from beginning to completion, while collaborating with stakeholders. The coordinator is also responsible for developing compelling content (e.g., copy and graphics) for new communications across multiple channels (e.g., email, SMS/Text, blog, social media announcements/alerts/posts/discussions, newsletters) that provide timely, relevant audience-specific information.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and distribute engaging content across various platforms (e.g., email, portal, portal, marketing software, SMS/Text, digital signage, website, CRM).
  • Write appealing copy, including editing and proofreading, for clarity, tone, and accuracy, following the College's brand guidelines.
  • Create visually appealing content that resonates with students and target audiences.
  • Create communication request workflows to track and schedule communications using project management software (e.g., Asana, HubSpot, Jira, etc.).
  • Partner with other departments to ensure consistent coordination of student messaging across the College.
  • Collaborate with student portal stakeholders to create and revise groups and pages.
  • Regular review of communication analytics, with the Student Communications Director, to identify trends, insights, and areas for improvement.
  • Supports with email campaigns and templates within the CRM.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a student communication plan.
Marginal Job Functions:
  • Maintains the storage and archiving of departmental documentation.
  • Attends College and Student Services division meetings, team leadership functions, and trainings.
  • Participates in College committees as a member of the Student Services division.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Expertise with digital communication tools, including email marketing systems, customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, SMS/text platforms, content management systems (CMS), and graphic design systems.
  • Advanced experience with web design, HTML, and digital accessibility standards.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills and be able to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent creative ability and in-depth understanding of the student experience in higher education.
  • Mastery of managing numerous tasks simultaneously while keeping deadlines.
  • Proficient ability to independently develop, manage, and complete new projects/programs with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to actively accept direction and constructive criticism to refine skills, enhance performance, and consistently deliver improved results.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical expertise with various computing systems and software, including student database systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, Higher Education or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
Required Experience:
  • Three years student communication experience or related experience in written, digital, and visual media.
  • Two years social media content strategy experience, or related experience in campaign planning, production, and scheduling.
Preferred Experience:
  • Two years Content Management System (CSM) such as HubSpot, Wix, Drupal, Lythos, WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, etc.).
  • One year Customer Relationship Management (CRM) (i.e. Salesforce).
  • Communication/marketing/public relations experience in higher education.
  • Prior experience with student communications writing.
  • Experience with student portal and CRM communications.
  • Expertise with higher education social media content creation.
  • Comprehensive experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Lucid Press, Marq, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of SJC organizational practices.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
  • HubSpot Social Media Marketing Certification, Meta Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate, PRSA Digital Communications Certificate, or equivalent from an accredited organization/institution.
Note: This position offers limited remote work arrangements after a probationary period of satisfactory work, appropriate director approvals, and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.
