Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Assessment & Accreditation provides administrative oversight for the assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts across all programs in the Cato College of Education. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and university accreditation requirements while stewarding highquality assessment systems, data environments, and evidencebased decisionmaking aligned with the University's strategic priorities. The Director leads multiyear accreditation planning and reporting cycles, oversees the Office of Assessment & Accreditation ( OAA), and leads the college's dispositions processes. Through close collaboration with faculty, program leaders, and university partners, this position strengthens processes, enhances data quality, and supports a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This leadership advances the college's mission by ensuring rigorous, coherent, and studentcentered assessment and accreditation practices.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Assessment, Accreditation & Continuous Improvement



  • Coordinate annual and recurring reporting obligations (CAEP Annual Report, NC DPI EPP Report, Title II IPRC, SACSCOC SLO reporting, US News and World Report surveys), using associated systems such as CAEP AIMS 2.0, NCDPI portal, University Assessment systems, ETS, and others.
  • Lead the Cato College of Education's accreditation strategy and readiness, including CAEP re-accreditation and CACREP collaboration, by overseeing data and evidence coordination, guiding self-study development, managing faculty committees, and directing logistics for on-site reviews within the seven-year cycle.
  • Set vision and standards for program-level student learning outcomes (SLOs), evidence collection, analysis, and use for improvement.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for the campus program review process.
  • Ensure, revise, and develop alignment of assessments, rubrics, surveys, and candidate portfolios with accreditation standards and COED student learning outcomes.
  • Work with COED leadership in the development, implementation, and revision of the COED strategic plan aligned with the University strategic plan.
  • Oversee revisions and development of the Conceptual Framework and Comprehensive Assessment System for the college.
  • Import Title II rosters and coordinate verification of enrollment roster for compliance and reporting.
  • Provide executive oversight of COED's assessment and data environment (e.g., Taskstream, Sonia, Tableau dashboards, Banner Production form SWAEPPL) and set protocols for data governance, privacy, and appropriate sharing with stakeholders; the Director collaborates with staff and offices who utilize these systems.
  • Serve as COED Dispositions Coordinator: oversee Professional Dispositions processes, maintain documentation, track data, and lead continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage edTPA policy and implementation, ensure clear communication with programs and stakeholders; manage edReports and library resources; monitor course fee and voucher processes; and coordinate all collegelevel edTPA communication as the primary liaison with Pearson.
  • Provide strategic leadership for curriculum and program approval processes, ensuring compliance with state and national standards. Direct preparation of reports and licensure blueprints for DPI review, guide proposals through campus curriculum review, and oversee continuous improvement and accountability for accreditation and program effectiveness. Utilize the curriculum review database to streamline workflows and maintain alignment with standards, assessments, and legislative mandates.
  • Guide development and use of COED's Internal Tableau dashboards for program improvement, data analysis for actionable insights and strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in meetings with the UNC Charlotte Office of Assessment and Accreditation and communicate relevant information to college leadership.
  • Participate in occasional travel to national and state conferences (e.g., CAEPCon, NCACTE) to represent the college and stay current with accreditation and assessment best practices.
  • Provide support for the College's faculty annual reporting system.



Supervision & Leadership Responsibilities



  • Supervise the University Program Specialist and Graduate Research Assistant (as funding allows); set priorities, workflows, and professional development plans.
  • Serve as a member of the COED leadership team, contributing to college-wide initiatives and strategic planning and act as a strategic advisor around educator preparation policy in NC. Follow educator preparation policy meetings (e.g., PEPSC, NC SBE) and communicate relevant information to college leadership.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with program leaders, Office of School & Community Partnerships (OSCP), Teacher Education Advising & Licensure (TEAL), Institutional Research, and university offices to ensure compliance and process alignment.
  • Promote efficient processes and manage change using evidencebased approaches.


Research Support & Reporting



  • Consult with faculty on access to program assessment data, IRB considerations, and interpretation of college-level assessment trends (e.g., exit surveys, dispositions, edTPA, enrollment, graduation, employment).
  • Support scholarly dissemination of findings and guide data for research and program improvement.
  • Identify and share research trends emerging from COED assessment data and NCDPI.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Earned Master's Degree from an accredited University in an educational field
  • 3 years of experience in higher education, College/School of Education

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Background in administration and supervision
  • Experience with national accreditation preparation
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite and electronic portfolios
  • Ability to make decisions based on interpreting data accurately
  • Ability to generalize recommendations for continuous improvement for program approval and accreditation purposes
