Join Our Team as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer II!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer II, who will report directly to our Director of Infrastructure & Cyber Security. This role is at the heart of designing, implementing, and supporting all our infrastructure hosted in Amazon Web Services and Azure. As a key player in our Cloud Engineering Team, you will collaborate with senior staff and leadership in identifying technology needs, crafting innovative solutions, managing vendors, and overseeing the project life cycle for both new installations and upgrades of existing technology.

In this dynamic position, you will also focus on developing best practices around security, policies, and procedures, as well as ensuring quality assurance, monitoring, metrics, and documentation are top-notch!

You'll work closely with our entire Technology Team and take the lead for the Cloud infrastructure group on various technology and company projects. Together, we will ensure our business operations run smoothly by maintaining system uptime and successfully implementing new projects. Join us in making a significant impact!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Cloud Infrastructure:



  1. Plan, document, and maintain hosted and cloud infrastructure instances per Technology Services standards.
  2. Design and implement cloud monitoring tools to ensure visibility and reporting on system performance, including network and server capacity and response times.
  3. Develop and maintain cloud systems in accordance with AWS Well-Architected Framework.


System Administration:



  1. Manage and administer Linux/Windows systems at a senior level.
  2. Support the Technology team with DevOps initiatives.
  3. Design and evaluate IaaS systems.
  4. Develop procedures for backup, support, archival, purge processes, patch management, security updates, and data center maintenance.
  5. Maintain technology standards, policies, and performance metrics for infrastructure to exceed enterprise expectations.
  6. Administer AWS and Azure resources daily.
  7. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize solutions.


Security and Compliance:



  1. Design and maintain operating systems and backup solutions to meet company goals.
  2. Conduct scheduled disaster recovery and business continuity exercises in cloud environments.
  3. Participate in annual penetration testing with external vendors.
  4. Ensure compliance with industry and Burris standards.
  5. Assist with backup processes, mobile device support, archival, purge processes, patch management, and security updates.
  6. Help develop policies and practices that meet organizational security requirements.
  7. Implement security best practices for AWS & Azure environments as guided by the Security Team.
  8. Define system testing and provide quality assurance support for new and existing systems.


Automation:



  1. Develop automation scripts to streamline deployment and management processes.
  2. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning.
  3. Assist in developing automation practices to enhance operations and maintain consistency.


Collaboration & Documentation:



  1. Support and collaborate with the Cloud Engineering Team and Technology Services leadership to address ongoing needs and requests.
  2. Maintain documentation for Cloud infrastructure systems under the Manager, Infrastructure.
  3. Participate in strategic planning, ensuring alignment with overall enterprise architecture.


Performance Monitoring and Optimization:



  1. Monitor infrastructure operations and performance to meet management standards.
  2. Maintain monitoring configurations for critical systems.
  3. Implement best practices around performance SLAs for critical systems.
  4. Provide Cost Optimization Reporting to Infrastructure Leadership.


Other:



  1. Participate in special projects and other assigned duties as needed.
  2. Provide AWS operational guidance internally and externally.
  3. Collaborate with architects, project managers, and experts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  4. Create and share documentation for all Technology Teams.
  5. Pursue training opportunities to stay current on technology trends and ensure maximum value for Burris.
  6. Participate in on-call rotation support.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  1. Education: BA/BS (4-year degree) or equivalent experience.
  2. Preferred experience with AWS cloud, Azure Entra (Azure AD), LAN & WAN Networks, and DNS.
  3. 6+ years of Linux Administration, including recent cloud environment management.
  4. Hands-on experience with AWS networking constructs like Transit Gateway, VPC architecture, Network ACLs (NACLs), and Security Groups in multi-account environments. Proficient in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and user support.
  5. Experience in administering and deploying automation tools such as Bash, Ansible, and Python.
  6. Skilled in configuring and managing database systems (MySQL).
  7. Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Deep knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, SES) with a focus on scalability and high availability; hands-on experience with AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS), including RTO/RPO targets, replication management, and recovery runbooks.
  2. Proficient in cloud monitoring tools and strategies (Datadog, Rapid7).
  3. Experienced in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation.
  4. AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator) are a plus.
  5. Skilled in CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  6. Experience in AWS governance (AWS Organizations, AWS Control Tower, SCPs, IAM governance) and familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  7. Strong collaboration and communication skills for effective teamwork.
  8. Ability to learn and support new technologies and existing applications.
  9. Excellent problem-solving skills, urgency, and strong written and verbal communication.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a physical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands, arms and fingers to handle and lift objects up to 10 pounds.
