Registered Nurse, Per Diem - Dermatology
Job Summary
Under supervision, Per Diem Nurses provide temporary professional nursing care for an individual patient, supplement the regular nursing staff in emergency situations, and perform other related duties as required. Duties performed are similar to those described in the Clinical Nurse Series, but positions are temporary in nature.
Incumbents for positions included in the Per Diem Nurse class are expected to meet the requirements of graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California; and possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Under the Direction of the nurse manager and guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, The RN utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; assists with surgical and cosmetic procedures as determined by patient need and may include but not limited to Mohs Micrographic excisions and repairs; assisting with BCC and SCC excisions and repairs, laser, Botox and Restylane treatments, performs laser hair removal and triages patient phone calls and messages. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. S/he is expected to be proficient in the electronic medical record (EMR) system of the Medical Center (EPIC/APeX). S/he is also required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.
In collaboration with the physician and nursing staff, the RN has the clinical responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily operations. The RN is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with the changing priorities. S/he is a self-reliant individual who synthesizes his/her knowledge of practice operations to problem-solve, prioritize, and facilitate complex transactions during his/her daily activities. S/he is responsible for administering medications, assisting with a variety of procedures, practicing basic assessment of patient medical and psycho-social needs, participating in patient education, and assisting medical providers in a variety of ways. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient's physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs.
The clinical nurse has excellent oral and written communication skills; can work well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast pace and challenging environment. S/he is sensitive to the needs of patients, staff, and providers at all times. This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent nursing care and customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency. S/he consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and as well as demonstrating UCSF's PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $111.29 - $144.16 (Hourly Rate). Required Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of experience working within a multi-specialty outpatient clinic
- At least three (3) years of experience working with a surgical specialty
- Knowledge and abilities are essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
- Experience in Laser Hair Removal Treatment
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Dermatology experience
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
