The Vice President, Tire Merchandising is the enterprise leader responsible for defining, directing, and executing Pep Boys' national tire merchandising strategy. This role sets the long-term category vision, leads national brand and supplier partnerships, and drives enterprise sales, margin, and inventory performance across the full tire portfolio. The VP leads the tire merchandising function, ensuring that national strategies are translated into actionable regional plans. This role requires deep merchandising expertise, strong supplier leadership, and the ability to influence cross-functional leaders across Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Pricing, and Finance.
- Set the national strategy for tire categories, including brand architecture, assortment frameworks, and multi-year business plans aligned to enterprise financial goals; direct good/better/best portfolio design and define the optimal mix of direct-import, OE, aftermarket, and distributor channels.
- Lead enterprise-level negotiations, long-term agreements, supplier programs, and cost structures; optimize the supplier network for exclusivity and innovation; oversee supplier performance, risk, and compliance across the national portfolio.
- Define national pricing architecture and promotional strategy, establish execution guardrails, and guide national go-to-market planning with Marketing and Operations; leverage performance data, consumer trends, and competitive insights to influence enterprise pricing and promotional decisions.
- Own the national tire P&L and lead performance management for sales, margin, GMROI, and inventory; provide executive-level guidance on KPIs while directing AVPs and Category Managers on tactical execution; drive enterprise-wide margin and mix optimization initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional alignment with Inventory Planning, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and Pricing to ensure strategies are executable, scalable, and aligned across regions; champion standardization and core program adoption across the enterprise.
- Lead and develop a team of direct and indirect resources; build organizational capability, set performance expectations, coach leaders, and foster a culture of empowerment, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Drive innovation in sourcing and merchandising through vendor diversification, direct-import opportunities, and cost-structure improvements; lead adoption of new tools, systems, analytics capabilities, and enterprise merchandising processes.
- Partner with the SVP of Merchandising and executive leadership to drive enterprise initiatives, represent national category strategy in senior forums, and lead high-impact merchandising programs that advance Pep Boys' long-term vision.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience with 8+ years of supervisory experience coupled with a Bachelor's degree Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Retail Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Understanding of tire category dynamics, including OE and aftermarket tire markets.
- Strong knowledge of merchandising principles, pricing levers, and good-better-best assortment frameworks.
- Familiarity with vendor management, global sourcing, and supply chain fundamentals.
- Knowledge of retail financial metrics including GMROI, inventory turns, margin optimization, and demand forecasting.
- Working knowledge of procurement and merchandising systems (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa, Oracle).
- Understanding of cross-functional retail operations including marketing, store operations, and supply chain logistics.
