Product Development and Sustaining Engineer

Location: Maple Grove, MN (Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

Pay: $40-$46.50/hr. (DOE)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Position Type: Contract / Contract-to-Hire

We are seeking an experienced R&D & Sustaining Engineer to support product development, testing, and sustaining operations in Maple Grove, MN. This role combines hands-on lab work, test design, and engineering analysis to support projects from prototype to production, while working closely with engineers, design assurance, and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop new products, materials, processes, or equipment for moderately complex engineering projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and direct test activities, guiding technicians as needed.
  • Conduct product inspections and non-destructive testing (X-ray, CT scan, functional testing).
  • Perform tests using standard equipment (Instron/MTS, pressure gauges, X-ray imaging, data collection) and design custom fixturing for performance testing.
  • Collect, analyze, and report operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards.
  • Design and fabricate tooling and fixtures, and troubleshoot issues with new products or processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and communicate results to project teams.
  • Contribute to product design, material testing, specification preparation, process studies, and research investigations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing.
  • Maintain compliance with PDP/TPD systems and company quality requirements.
  • Create innovative concepts for new products or processes and submit design disclosures.
  • Provide guidance and training to technicians as needed.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics required; higher education is a plus.
  • 2+ years of hands-on lab experience and test method experience (internship experience does not count toward years required).
  • Experience with product testing, tooling, fixturing, and lab equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with Windchill (DCAs/design change analysis).
  • Proficient in MS Office and standard engineering software.
  • 3D printing experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems and compliance in engineering projects.
