This position leads the strategy, planning and execution for store and market level marketing activation - including New Stores/Grand Opening, Remodels, Competitive Market Incursions, among others. Key KPI's include driving awareness, traffic, customer retention and achieving sales goals. The Manager will serve as the strategic leader and primary marketing and promotional planning contact for Operations Leadership (RVP and Market Director's) and works with their team and to identify regional opportunities based on sales performance and future competitive marketplace challenges. Works with all levels of leadership across Merchandising, Planning, Pricing, Marketing, Analytics and Operations to bring these plans to life.

Responsible for working alongside the Marketing Leadership team for planning, forecasting and managing Advertising/Marketing expense and supplemental budgets across the department. Close partnership with the Meijer Finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Thought leadership, influence, accountability and follow through are critical.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Directs the strategy, development and execution of marketing and promotional programming related to Grand Openings and Remodels; accountable for tracking performance and marketplace dynamics and directing incremental marketing and promotional investment as needed to ensure success against sales plans; key partner for Regional Group Vice Presidents, Market Directors, and Merchandising and Marketing Leadership, ensuring strategy connection and financial delivery on objectives.

  • Strategically leads multi-functional teams in development of key major marketplace initiatives - centered on driving sales, market share, customer segmentation and health.

  • Proactively identifies and directs store and multi-store competitive response and market opportunity activity including assessment, strategy and plan development, financial review, execution and post-performance evaluation; actively identifies opportunities for optimization and efficiency over time.

  • Responsible for planning, forecasting and aggressively managing Advertising and Marketing Expense and Supplemental expense (excluding labor) across the Marketing department.

  • Partners with Marketing Analytics to understand program results and ROI and recommend strategic direction based on the data.

  • Provides direct leadership for reporting team members, including team staffing, growth and development, evaluation, issue resolution and coaching.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing or retail with proven track record of delivering successful results.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail and business acumen.

  • Team player and relationship builder, able to effectively work cross-functionally with peers, management and other internal or external stakeholders

  • Flexibility to quickly adjust to changes in priorities and workload.

  • Strong Power Point Presentation Development Skills

  • Effective communication and presentation skills in front of all leadership levels of the organization.

  • Comfortable in managing through ambiguity; create focus and action for self and teams.

  • Creative and strategic thinker, with the ability to generate and execute innovative ideas.

  • Proficient in using various tools and platforms for owned media, such as content management systems, social media management tools, email marketing tools, analytics tools, and financial planning tools/systems.
