Essential Job Duties
We are looking to hire a Research Specialist to support the ongoing research program on complex microbial communities, microbial symbioses and metaproteomics in the Kleiner Lab at NCSU ( www.kleinerlab.org).
The selected individual will understand the rationale for the research, and perform related experiments to test research hypotheses. Research activities include management of multiple, concurrent research projects, carrying out experiments, cultivation and growth of root associated bacteria, performance of molecular and biochemical assay, and data compilation. Procedures will include molecular and cell biological techniques on bacterial cultures. Research efforts will contribute toward publications, presentations and grant writing efforts.
Data Collection (80%)
Conducts laboratory experiments to collect biochemical, molecular biology and analytical chemistry assay data based on existing protocols e.g. enzyme assays and growth curves. Supports development of new protocols by running predetermined tests and assays and reports on collected data to allow for further optimization.
Research Support (20%)
Trains personnel on the usage of equipment, obtains quotes for purchasing and implements new laboratory practices.
Maintains bacterial cultures and stocks.
