Zoo Environmental Services Worker

Full Time

Hourly Pay Range: $16.70 - $19.70

Job Summary: The Zoo Environmental Services Worker performs cleaning duties and floor finishing in Zoo buildings and grounds. This position set ups and breaks down furniture for internal and external events in the Zoo's rental areas.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Work as a team member or independently to perform a variety of cleaning duties in public and office areas at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Items include but are not limited to restocking, emptying trash, cleaning bathrooms, window ledges, stairways, railings, furniture, signs, play equipment, etc.
• Follow work orders to set up chairs, tables, risers, stages, and podiums for internal and external events held at the Zoo. Ensure the space meets the needs of the customer as outlined in the work order.
• Sweep, mop, wax, and buff all hard surface floors. Vacuum and extract carpeted floors.
• Train seasonal Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how and what to clean, as well as what products to use.
• Lock buildings on second shift, unlock doors as needed on day shift. May be asked to assist the Night Keeper in emergencies.
• May be asked to assist the Grounds department with snow removal and salting walks.
• Operate utility cart, pickup truck, floor cleaning equipment, power washer, and window washing equipment safely and properly.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current resident of Wisconsin.
• Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
• Able to work independently as well as in a group. Able to follow directions and written instructions.

• Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets (Includes E-mail, County Intranet, Time Recording System, and Employee Self-Service).
• Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One (1) or more years of institutional cleaning experience.

NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
