Job Description




Our canine group, under Allied Universal Enhanced Protection Services, is hiring a Veterinary Technician. The Licensed Veterinary Technician is a part of the Canine Wellness and Support (CWS) mission in Winchester, Virginia working within our AAHA-accredited hospital. The Veterinary Technician should be able to work independently with minimal supervision to provide exceptional care for an in-house working canine population. Communication skills and ability to adapt in high stress situations are a must for this position. The Veterinary Technician may travel and work both nationally and internationally, for extended periods, in austere and/or challenging locations. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, treat canines for various diseases/injuries and provide preventative/maintenance care (e.g., vaccinations, laboratory sample collection, etc.)
  • Utilizing in-house imaging modalities, such as digital radiographs, and ultrasound; perform the studies and assist with the interpretation of results
  • Perform training and present veterinary information to host-nation veterinary personnel, canine handlers, trainers, and other stakeholders in regard to injury triage and prevention, as well as zoonoses
  • Using a cloud-based, working-dog-specific electronic medical record system, maintain veterinary records, generate relevant reports, and track necessary data
  • Provide veterinary expertise and inspections for facilities used to kennel Working Dog populations
  • Effectively work in a team-based environment while also maintaining the ability to work independently
  • Effectively communicate and consult with other veterinary teams supporting canine missions in remote locations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a current Veterinary Technician Certificate from an accredited university
  • Possess one or more of the following in at least one U.S. State:
    • Active Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license
    • Active Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) license
    • Active Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) license
    • Other nationally recognized animal technology licenses and certifications (e.g., Laboratory Animal Technician, Laboratory Animal Technologist, etc.)
  • Be a U.S. Citizen and possess a valid U.S. Passport
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a minimum SECRET level clearance
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Veterinary Technician in the United States Military or civilian private practice
  • Experience in specialty, emergency critical care or surgical/anesthesia practices
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills; ability to efficiently communicate and teach foreign individuals
  • Able to work independently with little to no immediate supervision
  • Able to collaborate with team members at all levels of leadership
  • Effectively communicate and consult with other veterinary teams supporting canine missions in remote locations
