How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:The HR Director develops and directs effective strategies and processes for the Carilion Clinic Healthcare System. Shares accountability as a member of the Human Resources Leadership team for integration and provision of effective Human Resources services across the organization. Proactively supports Carilion's strategic focus of clinical practice, education and research and Carilions values.

The HR Director

  • Develops and directs department to be strategically aligned with Human Resources services for designated Carilion affiliates and/or departments.

  • Supervises employees and is responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation.

  • Oversees interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, coaching, and employee relations, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Anticipates service area needs and proactively presents solutions that support the organizations mission and the business goals.

  • Provides and directs Human Resources consultative services to assigned affiliates and/or departments in any of the following disciplines or combination of disciplines: employee relations, employee communications, recruitment, compensation management, benefits administration, training and development, technical support.

  • Coordinates Human Resource projects and activities, serving as a liaison and/or project leaders with HR colleagues, other support services, and operations team members; engages employee relations, training and development, compensation, benefits, recruitment, communications, and technical support staff as necessary.

  • Develops and monitors departmental goals, performance improvement activities, operational budgets, strategies to support operational excellence standards.

  • Implements an effective and ongoing program to evaluate and measure success of departmental activities against scorecard initiatives and system goals and objectives.

  • Establishes, maintains and evaluates internal and external business relationships.

  • Oversees requests for proposal (RFP) process and negotiate contracts in collaboration with other essential departments. May manages multiple budgets and vendor contracts.


What We Require:

Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business or related field required.

Experience: 7 years of experience in Human Resources or related function with a minimum of 3 years management experience required.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: None.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of related laws & regulations. Experience with complex project management, communication strategies and programs; and leadership of multi-disciplinary teams with facilitation outside scope of direct reports required. Demonstrated strategic skills in business planning with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, strong operational focus and financial acumen. Proficient computer system knowledge. Proven ability to meet business outcomes.
