What this job involves - The Site Services Project and Communications Manager will be responsible for providing operational communications support and project management to the Site Services function, with a specific focus on communicating about services delivered by the Workforce Services (WFS) team, which includes services such as transportation, food services, and other critical campus operations.

Specifically, this person will create and implement Site Services communication campaigns targeted to reach a wide range of audience segments of the Genentech South San Francisco campus population and the extended workforce. This person will align project teams and work with them to understand project drivers, benefits, challenges, and impacts to the campus population. He/she will learn about and be the voice of the employees to create effective, integrated, and meaningful communications for various audiences. This role requires strong project management skills to strategically plan, execute, and track complex communication campaigns from inception through delivery. This person will be responsible for defining scope, managing timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring all communications projects are delivered on schedule and align with strategic objectives.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Lead the project management component of communications work, including developing comprehensive project plans, managing the editorial calendar, defining key milestones and dependencies, and proactively tracking progress to ensure all strategic communications initiatives and campaigns are delivered efficiently and on time.
  • Establish and drive campus-wide communication strategies, plans, and metrics that support Site Services' business objectives and priorities
  • Align communications planning and execution with other Site Services initiatives to influence message/brand consistency and a smooth customer experience across all channels.
  • Advise on approach to complex communication initiatives, leveraging input from cross-functional subject matter experts.
  • Partner with other members of Site Services to determine and deploy the best communication tools/channels (e.g. video, print, graphics) and strategies to provide different audiences with the information they need in a format that's easy to find and consume.
  • Perform editing or writing assignments, ensuring alignment with overall communication strategy and Site Services narrative.
  • Simplify complex messages while collaborating closely with one or more authors to ensure employees can easily and quickly understand the content.
  • Apply change management concepts to high impact communication plans that involve a change.
  • Conduct impact analyses, assess change readiness, and identify key stakeholders on communication strategies.
  • Identify and manage anticipated resistance to communication plans.
  • Partner on communications for the Site Services function as needed, including: town halls, organizational announcements, videos, presentations, newsletter, etc.
  • Independently prioritize workload, determine timelines, and operate under limited direction. This includes the project management component of the communications workload.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's with equivalent expertise
  • Proven ability to manage complex communications projects and lead communications strategies with a minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management capabilities required to strategically plan, prioritize, and drive communication initiatives.
  • Must be adept at managing complex editorial calendars, coordinating deliverables across multiple stakeholders, tracking campaign progress, and ensuring all communications projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with strategic organizational objectives.
  • Strong prioritization, communication, and project management skills and capabilities. Must be flexible and able to prioritize, make decisions and meet sudden deadlines in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
  • Familiarity with integrated facilities management models and communicating to a diverse workforce population, including contractors, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, bring teams to consensus/alignment.
  • Demonstrates leadership and flexibility, as well as the ability to build rapport and trust with cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled at understanding multi-channel communication environments and appropriately leveraging the right channel for the right message.
  • Ability to think through the impact of the physical environment on communications and change management plans, including processes, engineering controls and signage.
  • Ability to turn complex ideas into stories easily understood by a broad audience.
  • Technical knowledge regarding posting content to the web and how web content systems work.
  • Independent self-starter able to write quickly under deadline with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Technical competency working with Google applications, Mailchimp, and WordPress.
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools.
  • Positive attitude and ability to adapt to constant change.
  • Knows how to prioritize efforts and effectively manage time based on business needs.

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Estimated compensation for this position:

112,320.00 - 112,320.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
