Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Training Instructional Technologist who will support training materials development at both the divisional level and throughout the directorate. This position resides with the Training Support Group in the Safety, Engineering, and Support Section of the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division for the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate, atOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL).

If selected, you will work with a team of training professionals to provide exceptional service and training support following proven and systematic processes.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Use technology, e-learning platforms, and other interactive training tools to develop online modules and exams for training delivery.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with subject matter experts, management, operations, maintenance, technical support, principal investigators, lab-space managers, project staff, instructors, OJT trainers, and training support staff to prepare training materials, presentations, handouts, and resources needed for training delivery.
  • Design training materials content and format using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT).
  • Oversee the review, approval, publishing, and revision control processes for formal training documents.
  • Develop and maintain training materials (e.g. lesson plans and OJT performance packages) necessary to support formal initial and continuing training.
  • Determine the best delivery method and assist in the delivery of knowledge-based training, performance-based (OJT) training, institutional training, and assigned reading.
  • Periodically evaluate changes in facilities or projects to ensure the required training elements are performed and that personnel are provided training on new or modified facility structures, systems, equipment, and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Stay updated on training trends, methodologies, and technologies.
  • Continuously review and improve training programs based on feedback, lessons learned, and advancements in technology or processes.
  • Stay up to date with DOE Orders, standards, and training best practices as they relate to instructional design.
  • Provide instructional design input to division/groups during new procedure development.
  • Understand and interpret the DOE Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process.
  • Understand and make training applications with DOE Conduct of Operations, DOE Nuclear Training Program Evaluations, and DOE Nuclear Training Standards.
  • Practice excellence in written and oral communication skills including working both independently and participating creatively in collaborative teams.
  • Understand and implement goal setting and the ability to set priorities based on current projects and milestones.
  • Accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines; and adapt to ever changing needs while functioning well in a high stress and high compliance environment.
  • Complete and maintain designation as a Subject Matter Expert for training.
  • Complete and maintain Instructor Qualification, and OJT Trainer authorization.
  • Conduct and document training needs assessments.
  • Continuously review and improve training materials based on feedback, lessons learned, and advancements in technology or processes.
  • Contribute to and nurture a strong training culture emphasizing the importance of the training fundamentals outlined in the ISED Conduct of Training.
  • Develop facility-specific training materials, including facility unescorted access training and facility walkthrough checklists.
  • Encourage open communication, collect feedback from training participants, assess the effectiveness of the instructor and the training materials, and adjust training approaches.
  • Ensure training activities are well organized, efficient, and contribute to the overall growth, safety, and success of the facility or project.
  • Incorporate nuclear program requirements as defined in DOE Order 4262A, Personnel Selection, Training, Qualification, and Certification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities.
  • Incorporate nuclear program requirements as defined in NNFD-009, Nuclear Training Program and its associated procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS or BA degree andwith a minimum of 5years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a high compliance industry, with
    • A minimum of three years of instructional design experience using Articulate Storyline eLearning design program with xAPI or SCORM outputs, and
    • A minimum of three years of training experience.
  • Exceptional understanding and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SuccessFactors or other Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience in a Nuclear Hazard Category 1, 2, or 3 facility.
  • Experience in a radiological facility, power plant, or Navy Nuclear Program.
  • Experience in the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOE Conduct of Operations, DOE Training Program Evaluations, and DOE Nuclear Training Standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work both independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to set priorities based on current projects and milestones.
  • Ability to function well in a high stress and high compliance environment; accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines; and adapt to ever changing needs.

Special Requirements:

  • Q clearance:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
