Overview

Jr. Electrical Field Techs will be responsible for a variety of work tasks including but not limited to: Programming and repairing controllers for vacuum recloser switches (VRS), Installation & repair of control circuits for automatic transfer switches (ATS), step voltage regulators, and pole mounted capacitors. Additionally, Field techs will conduct high potential testing of aerial lift devices and reinforced fiber glass plastic tools along with conducting infrared inspections of overheard power lines.

Core Responsibilities
  • Program and repair controllers for vacuum recloser switches (VRS).
  • Install and repair control circuits for automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Install and repair step voltage regulators.
  • Install and repair pole mounted capacitors.
  • Conduct high potential testing of aerial lift devices and reinforced fiber glass plastic tools.
  • Conduct infrared inspections of overhead power lines.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years Relevant technical experience or
  • Associate's Degree In Electrical Technology or equivalent
Relevant Work Experience
  • Will have a working knowledge of Basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including 3 phase AC power systems. Required
  • Will also have a working knowledge of mathematics and be able to learn to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry and vector analysis. Required
  • Have knowledge of, and experience with computer systems, and must be able to use a computer to perform automated testing and prepare spreadsheets and technical reports. Required
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and will be required to pass the PST Electrical Technician placement exam. Required
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting and repairs on protective relays and systems, overhead and underground switching and regulating devices, substation equipment, control systems and communication systems (SCADA - Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) in substations and at other field locations. Required
  • Have the ability for Bucket Truck Aerial and Ladder Line training and once trained, will be required to perform Storm Emergency restoration (Ladder Line) work, as needed. Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
