What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Technical Writer to collaborate with engineers in documenting manufacturing processes and equipment operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's mission of building a sustainable energy future by creating clear, precise documentation that supports production teams.

What You'll Do
  • Work alongside engineers and technical writers to capture and document manufacturing processes and equipment details using notes, recordings, and photographs
  • Transform gathered information into clear Manufacturing Instructions (MIs), visual aids, training checklists, and maintenance instructions
  • Ensure MIs serve as the primary record for product assembly, followed by hundreds of production associates
  • Translate verbal and observational data into concise, written procedures that communicate concepts and instructions effectively
  • Manage multiple documentation projects under tight deadlines and competing demands
  • Utilize digital photography skills to capture still and motion images, focusing on aspect ratio, framing, macro details, and post-processing (e.g., editing for size, resolution, color, and cropping)
  • Collaborate with teams to incorporate technical specifications for automated equipment and interpret mechanical drawings where applicable

What You'll Bring
  • Experience creating process documentation that clearly communicates concepts, ideas, and instructions
  • Strong ability to translate verbal information into well-written procedures with exemplary grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Proficiency in digital photography, including still/motion capture, file manipulation, and editing (e.g., brightness, contrast, rotation, cropping)
  • Excellent listening, observation, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects and tight deadlines
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Visio
  • Degree in writing, engineering, drafting, or related field, or equivalent 3+ years of pertinent experience
