Job Summary


The Medical Assistant (MA) Hub position is an essential member of the Cancer Services team, dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and ensuring seamless coordination across clinical and administrative functions. Serving as a vital link between triage nurses, providers, and administrative staff, the MA Hub plays a key role in facilitating timely communication, coordinated care, and an outstanding patient experience throughout the cancer care journey.

Under the supervision of a clinical leader and in alignment with Ambulatory Services policies and procedures, the MA Hub supports patient care delivery across multiple Cancer Services ambulatory group practices. This role provides coverage for various cost centers within the Cancer Center, including multiple campuses and satellite offices.

Primary responsibilities include supporting clinical workflows, assisting with patient inquiries, coordinating follow-up care and appointments, managing documentation, and facilitating communication across multidisciplinary teams. The MA Hub also performs patient care and laboratory procedures as needed to support specialty services within the Cancer Center.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a compassionate, team-oriented approach in a dynamic oncology environment. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to learn and support multiple specialty practices are essential to success in this role.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $32.86 - $41.01 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. We are routinely voted a top 10 program by U.S. News and World Report.

Required Qualifications


  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience as Hospital Assistant or Medical Assistant.
  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to efficiently navigate, operate, and troubleshoot standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, web-based platforms, and other relevant tools)."
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal communication methods.
  • Able to meet physical requirements.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, and or patient financial services strongly preferred.
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in Ambulatory medical setting

License/Certification


  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
