Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients.
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions; evaluate and record patient/family responses; prescribe therapies as indicated.
  • Perform clinical procedures after appropriate training.
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education on treatment and wellness.
  • Promote wellness and recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Complete patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provide case management for patients and families, including limited knowledge of community resources.
  • May promote and provide staff education.
  • Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals and handling weekend or after-hour calls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Entry-level position requiring 0-3 years post-MSN experience, preferably in oncology.
  • Current RN state licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

OR

Physician Assistant

  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Entry-level position requiring 0-3 years of experience, preferably in oncology.
  • Current state license as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.

OR

Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
  • Entry-level position requiring 0-3 years post-MSN experience, preferably in oncology.
  • Current RN state licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current state licensure as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations common to oncology/hematology clinic settings.
