Senior Data Engineer (Azure Data Platform Lead)

Location: Remote (U.S. Based) | Clearance: Public Trust eligible


Overview

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to take a lead role in building a modern enterprise data platform within Microsoft Azure. You'll define and implement scalable, secure, and automated data solutions that power data-driven decision-making and modernization goals for a federal program. This is not a maintenance role-it's a hands-on leadership opportunity for an engineer who can design frameworks, set standards, and shape the long-term data architecture strategy.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and buildout of end-to-end Azure data pipelines and integration frameworks using Data Factory, Synapse, and Data Lake Gen2.
  • Design reusable ingestion and transformation patterns that enable data quality, lineage, and governance using Microsoft Purview.
  • Develop monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to ensure operational reliability, cost optimization, and proactive issue resolution.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for scalability, performance, and DevOps automation.
  • Collaborate with architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate data governance and analytics needs into technical solutions.
  • Establish and manage version control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps workflows in GitHub.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, ensuring high-quality design, documentation, and delivery practices.
  • Support advanced analytics enablement and reporting integrations using Power BI and Databricks.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise data engineering or architecture, including 5+ years with Azure cloud data services.
  • Deep expertise in Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake Gen2, and Microsoft Purview.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL with experience designing ETL/ELT frameworks.
  • Proven experience creating reusable data architecture frameworks and automation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and DevOps for data workloads.
  • Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and security best practices.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.

  • Ability to pass a background investigation to acquire a Public Trust Security Clearance is Required
