Intern, Technical Undergraduate Year Round - Responsive ND Architectures, Onsite

The Responsive Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Architectures department at Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated student intern to join our team! The successful candidate should have a background and interest in technical disciplines and will work with a multi-disciplinary group to support various engineering projects. On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Assist in organizing hardware and parts kits for various projects.
• Perform simple board-level electrical testing and document results.
• Support environmental testing, including shock, vibration, and space radiation effects. Knowledge of space radiation effects would be beneficial.
• Help design and develop web pages to enhance project visibility and communication.
• Utilize GitLab repositories for version control and collaboration on projects.
• Learn about flight telemetry systems and their applications.
• Acquire basic soldering and cable-making skills to support hardware assembly and testing.

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

• Currently enrolled in a computer science, electrical or computer engineering or related STEM program
• Experience with one or more programming languages (Python, C#, etc.)
• Experience in engineering design (taking an idea from concept through demonstration and delivery)
• Experience with GitLab or similar version control systems.
• Experience in webpage design and development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new skills based on project needs.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to learn about flight telemetry systems and basic soldering techniques.

As part of the Advanced Systems and Transformation Center, the Responsive Nuclear Deterrent (ND) Architectures Department is responsible for creating, maturing, maintaining, and deploying standardized nuclear weapon interface solutions around data and power. Given that Modularity/block upgrades are the goal for next-generation weapon designs, our team enables modular solutions by using standard, flexible interfaces that meet emerging needs with proven survivability characteristics and varied capabilities that can be leveraged across future programs of record.
