Job Summary

Provides pedorthic devices for the prevention or alleviation of painful and/or disabling conditions of the foot and ankle. Fits, fabricates, adjusts, and modifies devices. Responsible for patient follow-up and implementation of the treatment plan for devices provided.

Essential Functions

  • Provides custom pedorthic devices by fitting, measuring, fabricating, and dispensing of custom pedorthic devices, including but are not limited to, foot orthoses, subtalar-control foot orthoses, and partial foot prostheses
  • Assesses patients with impairment of human movement or musculoskeletal abnormalities, including but are not limited to, pain management, peripheral nerve integrity, biomechanics, gait analysis, range of motion, muscle strength, and pedorthic requirements.
  • Creates customized treatment plan based upon a comprehensive assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function, including but is not limited to, verification of prescription, evaluation of prescription rationale, needs assessment, development of goals, analysis of structural and design requirements, and consultation with other health care professionals
  • Implements appropriate pedorthic treatment plan for patients, including but is not limited to, material selection, fabrication or overseeing of fabrication of pedorthic device, device evaluation, diagnostic fitting, and gait training
  • Utilizes a follow-up treatment plan to ensure successful outcomes. Formulates needed modifications. Reassesses expectations, goals, and objectives.
  • Assists in the stocking and maintenance of appropriate inventories of pedorthic materials and devices.
  • Participates in the on call rotation for 24/7 service delivery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Job-related course work beyond high school: Completion of pre-certification courses for the profession of pedorthics from the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE)

  • Experience - One (1) year experience in custom orthotic manufacturing, therapeutic shoe fitter, gait analysis, and patient assessment.

In Lieu Of

  • In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, completion of pre-certification courses for the profession of pedorthics from the The Commission on Accreditation of Pedorthic Education (CAPE) prior to January 1, 2009 will be in lieu of the required education.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Certified Pedorthist from either the American Board Certification (ABC) in Pedorthics or Board of Certification (BOC) in Pedorthics (Lawson Code: CPED)

  • A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Proficient computer skills (word processing)

  • Mathematical skills

  • General knowledge of human anatomy

  • General knowledge of medical terminology

  • General knowledge of pedorthic devices and equipment
