How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:Perform all of the duties of an EM and Safety Consultant with the expanded duties of EOC rounding at ambulatory / outpatient sites.

Manage, organize, develop, and implement a comprehensive safety and emergency preparedness program. Works closely with the Safety Officer, Carilion Clinic Director Risk Management, Security Services, Engineering/Maintenance, Clinical Engineering, Infection Control, and cooperatively with all staff, physicians and visitors, to ensure a safe environment and appropriate response to emergency situations. Provides safety management and emergency preparedness education programs and activities. Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation for state and federal agencies, The Joint Commission and OSHA pertaining to emergency preparedness.

  • Responsible for providing direction for an effective emergency preparedness and safety management program to include design and implementation of processes, policies and procedures that support the environment of care safety functions. Participates in regional policy and procedure development.
  • Facilitates and coordinates the functions of the facility Safety Committee. Directs the Safety Meister program.
  • Collaborates with Hospital Administration in staging and implementing facility-wide, as well as regional, emergency management/preparedness and mass casualty drills.
  • Consults with the Incident Commander during implementation of the facilities Incident Command Structure when an actual incident occurs. Works with the Facility Support Services Director to ensure hospital readiness to treat patients contaminated with hazardous materials. Works in cooperation with local officials as needed.
  • Delivers. Coordinates, schedules, related educational programs (related to safety/emergency management. Develops presentation materials. Assesses training needs based of risk assessments and other survey data.
  • Coordinates the hazard surveillance assessment program to include semi-annual assessments in patient care areas and annual assessments in non-patient care areas. Assists managers in the development of action plans for correction of deficiencies identified.
  • Actively participates in Infection Control risk assessments for all hospital-based construction projects.
  • Consults with appropriate system resources to ensure documentation is in place for Joint Commission, OSHA, State and Federal Licensure pertaining to emergency management readiness. Recommends changes needed to ensure compliance with standards.

What We Require:

Education: Associate's degree and/or 4 years of experience in emergency management or safety required. Bachelors degree preferred.

Experience: Three years experience in emergency management, risk or safety in a clinical setting required. Training in hazardous materials, incident command, and disaster response required.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Current Virginia Drivers License.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Strong motivational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and decision making skills. Position is deemed emergency personnel during emergency conditions. Must provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites. May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs. Must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
