What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

The Security Engineering team is responsible for helping Tesla securely design, build, and operate life safety critical infrastructure across corporate, manufacturing and production environments. You will work on a broad set of efforts including the design and implementation of systems in new sites, ensuring survivability and resiliency is exceptional, driving the feature set forward, and working with construction teams, the broader business and vendors on project endeavors. Our public and private radio communication systems are life safety critical, and your work will focus heavily on ensuring our current and future states produce a highly trusted tool for our Security, EHS, and Production teams.

We are looking for an intern that is eager to learn and has a passion for life safety. You will play a critical role executing high-impact companywide initiatives and working to continuously improve the effectiveness of our org and the technologies we deploy. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, someone who enjoys learning by doing, and can communicate through barriers in a way that builds trust across the organization.


What You'll Do
  • Assist engineering work across all LMR and DAS radio systems at Tesla
  • Install equipment, ability to lift and carry 50lbs and to work at heights (Ladders and Lifts)
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and the ability to learn on the go
  • Communicates clearly with engineering team and cross departments
  • Programming and asset management of radios, repeaters, and accessories
  • Develops and maintains system documentation on both new and fielded systems
  • Travel within CA and NV, up to 50% (Frequent rotation between Fremont, Hayward, Palo Alto and Lathrop sites with trips to Sparks, NV on occasion)

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Technology, or related field of study with a graduation date between April 2026 - May 2027
  • Able to relocate and work on site in Fremont, CA
  • Ham or amateur two-way radio experience is a huge plus
  • Networking experience is a plus
  • Test Equipment knowledge of service monitors, power meters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, DMM's, network analyzers, and/or signal generators with a general knowledge of RF design principles and testing

    Expected Compensation
    $38.00 - $53.00/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
