Nurse Apprentice

Corewell Health Ludington Hospital is partnering with West Shore Community College and West Michigan Works to offer a Nurse Apprenticeship Program - a program designed to give you on the job training while paying for you to obtain your associates degree in Nursing!

In this program, Corewell Health will cover the cost for you to attend class AND pay you for hours spent on the job training as a Nurse Apprentice! Once you graduate and obtain your degree, you can then apply for a Graduate Nurse position so you can use your new skills, along with the training you've been getting along the way to make a difference in the lives of our patients.

  • Provides students an education in a high-demand field while incurringno out-of-pocket cost
  • Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assist in the development of nursing care plans and perform a variety of both technical and routine nursing services consistent with such plans.
Essential Functions
  • Performs activities under the direction of the RN, per job description and after skill validation.
  • Applies the Core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care in practice and uses this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family.
  • Performs routine bedside nursing activities including: bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
  • Takes vital signs and records intake and output.
  • Applies and changes sterile and non-sterile dressing using appropriate technique.
  • Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered nurse. Documents in electronic medical record.
  • Keeps professional nursing staff advised of current patient status as well as changes in patient condition as they occur.
  • Assists in admitting, transferring, and discharging patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
