Job Purpose

We are seeking a seasoned professional who is passionate about building the energy infrastructure of the future in a time of change. The Siting Specialist will join a team responsible for managing the energy infrastructure siting process for complex electric and natural gas projects in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. In this role, the Specialist will help project teams navigate state siting approval processes, foster best practices that lead to the timely review and approval of key projects, develop and maintain internal and external relationships with key stakeholders, and support National Grid's strategic response to changes in state energy infrastructure siting policy.

Key Accountabilities
  • Coordinate the development of high-quality siting applications for electric and natural gas projects in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire, working in close cooperation with project team members, consultants, and outside counsel.
  • Support the project team during Siting Board or Public Utility Commission review of siting applications, including the discovery process, hearings, and briefing.
  • Monitor compliance with the conditions of siting approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with New England siting regulators and with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an understanding of siting procedures, regulations, and orders in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
  • Help coordinate the development of new siting procedures and processes in response to changes in state siting laws and regulations.
  • Explore opportunities to develop siting and permitting efficiencies.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public policy, business, management, finance, law, government, economics, engineering or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the energy industry desired, preferably in infrastructure siting and permitting, energy or environmental regulation, project management, law, or a related field required.
  • Experience with energy infrastructure siting and permitting, preferably at the state level.
  • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and procedures pertaining to energy infrastructure siting.
  • Knowledge of energy regulatory agency processes.
  • Familiarity with project management and history of delivering assigned tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills, including the ability to build consensus, and manage expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills and the ability to write reports and develop presentations for internal and external senior leaders.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history required.
