Purpose of Position

The Benefits Analyst (BA) is a key member of the team responsible for administering the UT Retirement Program which includes the Voluntary Retirement Savings Plans, the Optional Retirement Program, and the UT Governmental Retirement Arrangement. The role requires strong analytical and communication skills to support plan operations, resolve complex issues, and contribute to strategic plan operations. Responsibilities include assisting with the administration of contract requirements and adherence to plan documents, customer service, and acting as a liaison between UT System, its institutions, vendors, and plan members.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with plan operations, including RFP preparation, implementing plans, reporting, auditing and monitoring vendor performance.
  • Accurately reviews and manages participant in-service distribution and loan requests.
  • Assists with policy development and ensures plan documents are compliant with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with the enrollment and common remitter service administrators and institutional benefits office staff to ensure timely and accurate deposits of employee retirement plan deferrals.
  • Works with vendors, contracting actuary, and OEB management to discuss and recommend plan design enhancements or changes based on participant needs, market trends, and financial considerations.
  • Coordinates and acts as liaison for the institution benefits office staff to interpret plan guidelines and policy as well as coordinate problem solving for a variety of issues pertaining to individual participant needs.
  • Reviews plan trends, evaluates marketplace, and reviews legislation to ensure compliance and makes recommendations on future program goals.
  • Coordinates with benefit and vendor professionals to develop and maintain external-facing communications
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • One year of college (30 semester hours) may be substituted for one year of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory.

A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check. Background checks are conducted by third-party vendors. Upon request form the third-party vendor, candidates under final consideration must provide the required information for the background checks to be completed.
