Key Responsibilities:

Our New York City office is looking to add a Principal Project Manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for the planning, execution and overall management of major transportation projects and/or programs. You should expect to work on projects located throughout the Eastern United States with a focus on the New York City market. Familiarity with local transportation clients is desirable, e.g. PANYNJ. We're looking for someone who can function as role models and ambassadors for Mott MacDonald, representing the brand, vision, and articulating our value proposition internally and externally.You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, architects, and stakeholders, to meet project objectives and exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead financial planning, scheduling, budgeting and forecasting for major programs
  • Develop and maintain project and/or programmatic KPI's and associated dashboards to monitor and report progress and identify improvements


  • Develop comprehensive project plans and controls, including scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and budget allocation, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle and take proactive measures to minimize their impact.
  • Lead project execution activities, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow, adherence to project plans, and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and conform to industry standards.
  • Monitor project finances, track expenses, and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints. Provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.
  • Foster effective communication among team members and stakeholders. Prepare and deliver progress reports, project updates, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and manage project changes, including scope variations, timeline adjustments, and resource reallocations. Assess the impact of changes on project objectives and communicate effectively with all parties involved.
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing clients and pursue and win opportunities with new clients. In each case, take a leadership role in the pursuit process.


  • Maintain client relationships during and after each project is finished to increase our opportunities for future work.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments in support of corporate commercial and management goals.



Qualifications:



  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in project management, project controls and /or commercial management.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex engineering projects is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics or related field. A master's degree is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability in building and maintaining client relationships in the New York City Market.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address project-related challenges proactively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

At Mott MacDonald, we provide a comprehensive benefit package that includes 401k, medical, dental and vision insurance, short-term/long-term disability, paid holidays, PTO, parental leave and company paid life insurance.

The expected salary for this position is $188,000 - $240,000.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
