What to Expect
Tesla is looking to hire a Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the development and launch of battery manufacturing equipment for our cutting-edge Optimus robot. In this role you will take large scale manufacturing systems for new battery products and architectures from the early concept development stage through equipment launch, optimization and handover to local operations teams. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges for the all-new Optimus product architecture while still in its early development stages. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. This role requires onsite presence or temporary assignment to Fremont or Reno to support pilot and prototyping efforts for 6 to 12 months. After this phase, this role will transition to our Gigafactory in Austin, TX.
What You'll Do
- Ideate cutting-edge concepts for equipment and manufacturing system(s) that enable high-volume production
- Deploy, validate, and optimize highly robust, highly automated manufacturing equipment and processes
- Lead cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems through collaboration, data driven decision making and engineering first principles
- Learn and apply a range of manufacturing techniques to Tesla's cutting-edge battery products including mechanical joining, dispensing, electrical interconnection, vision inspection, leak testing, electrical testing, and automated material handling
- Ramp transient processes to meet steady state production targets including cycle time, availability, and yield through rigorous iterative improvements across targeted bottlenecks
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes and equipment for high-volume, automated production environments
- Proven success in deploying, qualifying, and validating new processes to ensure stable and efficient manufacturing operations
- Proficient in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and in applying experimental design principles
- Experienced in the development and launch of large, complex, and highly automated manufacturing lines. Exposure to EV battery systems preferred
- Familiar with industrial engineering concepts such as line balancing, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and process optimization
- Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience, with the ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
