Description
Develop, implement and manage Safety, Radiation Safety and Environmental Programs at the Meriden facility. Complete daily and weekly tasks associated with current implemented plans. Complete all actions necessary for compliance with Safety, Environmental regulations and Hazardous Waste management. Provide support to the Radiation Safety Program. This position is responsible for the maintaining security operations, facility, and all emergency situations. Support efforts to maintain the safety of the facility utilizing safe practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Proactively apply and keep up-to-date on OSHA, NRC, EPA, and Transportation regulations and their impact on the Meriden facility.
- Oversee and direct Safety Management System Programming for Meriden Facility.
- Manage all RSO (Radiation Safety Office) responsibilities and coordinate radioactive waste tracking and disposal.
- Conduct and coordinate all safety training for new employees, supervisors and managers including hazardous materials and first response training.
- Investigate all Workers' Compensation accidents/claims. Act as contact with WC insurance carrier for location and corporation. Manage first aid and near miss program.
- Site representative for Safety and environmental programs. Direct all Safety Team and Fire Safety meetings; including emergency planning and schedule fire drills, perform follow up on all duties assigned. Publish meeting minutes. Act as liaison between Management and the Safety Team. Coordinate all safety/workplace audits.
- Manage all responsibilities associated with the Environmental Program including identification, inspection, scheduling, packaging of all hazardous chemical and radioactive waste for safe disposal. Manage responsibilities for water discharges including sampling, flow monitoring and air emissions. Complete any required state and federal reports.
- Oversee Building Service and staff activities related to health, safety, security, emergency response, preventative maintenance projects, etc.
- Control and maintain security and fire/sprinkler.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Ability to perform Job Safety Analysis, Risk Assessments, Hazard Analysis, LOTO and Machine Guarding Assessment
- Ability to maintain SOS database and Radioactive Inventory
- Maintain Safety and Environmental Training database
- Assist planning and implementing preventative maintenance and schedule contractors for the facility.
- Manage budget for building services through SAP and Microsoft
- Emergency response and emergency action planning
- Assist the RSO to implement actions from the Radiation Safety Committee
- Assist the RSO with regulatory inspections, corrective actions, implementation of new regulations, and reciprocity agreements
- Prepare and package radioactive materials according to various transportation regulations
- Coordinate, prep and track radioactive materials/ waste shipments
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of OSHA, USN RC, EPA and Transportation regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judgement/ decision makingcskills.
- Previous experience with environmental regulations e., Hazardous Materials and Waste.
- Previous experience with radiation safety requirments.
- Commitment to safety.
- High analytical skills and attentive to detail and documentation.
- Good teaching ability.
- Good planning/organizing skills.
- Certification in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response - minimum First Responder, Operations levels.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the facility and it's systems.
- Service orinetated.
- 24 hour backup emergency responses.
- Favorable background / fingerprint check and criminal record check related to US NRC Security measures.
- Ability to professionally interface with regulators and represent the Meriden Facility.
- Ability to lift up to 25 unassisted.
- Ability to stand, sit and perform work in multiple settings within the office and fabrication.
- Basic knowledge of environmental, health and safety practices.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Basic knowledge of radioactive source materials, use and handling practices.
- Technical or procedural writing skills.
- Willingness to learn and a willingness to develop instructional skills.
- Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods in accordance with ICAO and DOT.
AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 3 - 5 years prior experience in safety, radiation and 3 - 5 years desired supervisory experience.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Technologies or similar degree preferred.
