Maintenance Control Operations Manager Overview:

The Maintenance Control Operations Manger (MCOM) provides real-time leadership, oversight, and decision-making authority within the Maintenance Control function. This role ensures that Sun Country's aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition and that maintenance activities are performed in compliance with FAA regulations and company policies.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:



  • FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on 737 or similar type aircraft.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in commercial airline maintenance operations.
  • Strong understanding of aviation safety standards, FAA regulations, and airline maintenance operations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make timely, sound decisions under operational pressure.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in a 24/7 operational environment.


Required Qualifications:



  • Provide operational oversight of Maintenance Controllers and maintenance activity across the fleet.
  • Serve as the single management point of contact for the mechanical status of all aircraft, maintaining continuous awareness of fleet conditions.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and cost-effectiveness in all maintenance control activities.
  • Liaise with the SOC, Flight Operations, Line Maintenance, Planning, Engineering, Quality Control, and Supply Chain to minimize disruptions during irregular operations.
  • Oversee MEL/CDL/ETOPS/LLM compliance and ensure deferred items are corrected promptly.
  • Monitor and report on maintenance delays, cancellations, and trends.
  • Provide leadership in accident/incident response in accordance with the Emergency Response Guide.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Maintenance Controllers, including staffing schedules, performance reviews, and hiring/onboarding.
  • Drive cultural alignment by fostering professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Lead organizational change by effectively communicating priorities, guiding Controllers through transitions, and embedding new processes.
  • Act as a mediator between operational groups to resolve conflicts related to work priorities and planning. Manage and oversee the Maintenance Control function to ensure safety, compliance, and operational needs.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous Maintenance Control leadership experience at a Part 121 airline.
  • Familiarity with TRAX or similar maintenance tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated success in safety and cultural transformation initiatives.


    Compensation:

    $125,000.00-140,000.00. This is the base compensation hiring range for this role.

    Full-time, Exempt

    Working Location:

    Fully remote, ability to reside anywhere in the United States. 100% travel required

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    Oversees the overall maintenance operation and has direct supervision of Controllers to ensure safety and compliance with all Company, FAA, and governmental rules and regulations, and has management accountability for airworthiness determinations.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
