Shelter Staff Winter Shelter (Part time; 30 hours)

Schedule: Nights, Weekends, & Overnights

Position Summary

Shelter Staff provide front-line direct services and operational support to Winter Shelter guests. Primary tasks include ensuring the safety of program guests and the property, forming helping relationships with guests, and accomplishing tasks related to the routine and daily operations. As a Housing First agency, all services are person-centered and person-directed, using a harm reduction, trauma-informed framework to address client needs. As this is a program requiring around-the-clock support, schedules may include nontraditional work hours and days, including early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Additionally some positions will require awake overnight shift.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service:


  • Engage in relationship building/rapport building with guests.
  • Be a liaison to families, representatives of social services, and other agencies for constituents
  • Provide emotional support, assist with problem-solving, and facilitate referrals to community resources, general advocacy, and crisis intervention activities for guests.

Safety & Security:


  • Ensure the safety and security of guests through a trauma-informed lens
  • Conduct entry safety inspections of guests; property while documenting observations and issues
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the Winter Shelter
  • Engage in immediate conflict de-escalation with guests

Daily Living/Basic Needs:

Provide basic needs assistance to guests

Qualifications:


  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.
