HDR is searching for an Industrial Process Water/Wastewater Leader in the Michigan Area.

Candidates for the Industrial Process Water/Wastewater Leader role should have significant experience with industrial water/wastewater (W/WW) treatment systems and be capable of leading teams of engineers and designers on detailed design and owner's engineer projects. In this role you will work to understand your client's needs, develop creative solutions, support proposal development, lead the technical team, and lead the engineering design of complex industrial process W/WW systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with water systems used for production processes such as open- and closed-loop cooling water systems, water treatment systems (i.e. reverse osmosis systems, demineralized water storage), chemical feed systems, and other similar industrial W/WW systems. The successful candidate will also support business development activities including proposal development, delivering technical presentations, pursuit interviews, and supporting the growth of client relationships. Responsibilities include:

* Conduct site visits to gather relevant technical information, support construction and commissioning, and project closeout.

* Participate in strategic planning and the development of annual and long-term goals to support program and client development, community and industry participation, project pursuits, and talent acquisition and development.

* Lead the technical portions of proposal development including scope, schedule, and fee.

* Performing or overseeing process design sizing and hydraulic calculations including mass balances, water treatment system conceptual designs, and calculations to determine required equipment and tank sizes and capacities.

* Develop design criteria, equipment and procurement specifications, studies, bid evaluations, and reports.

* Lead the development of process flow diagrams, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, piping arrangement drawings and installation details.

* Review and evaluate equipment vendor and installation contractor proposals and submittals.

* Develop and execute QA/QC plans

* Lead technical teams including engineers, EITs, designers, and drafters.

* Work directly with project managers and clients to ensure that projects meet or exceed client expectations.

* Develop water supply and discharge agreements and permits. Meet and coordinate with permitting authorities.

* Provide internal and external training on industrial process W/WW systems

* Implement, monitor and support company policies

* Assist in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel

* Create recommendations for client facility standard monitoring systems, procedures, lab/chemical/reagent management, and staff training.

* Actively participate in industry conferences. Publish at least one technical paper annually

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience with Municipal Water and Wastewater Systems Planning and Design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Strong technical background and experience in designing water distribution systems
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation and hydraulic modeling software
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience is necessary
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
