Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder in nuclear submarines, is seeking a Material Controller for the Plate Yard.

The Material Controller for the Plate Yard will be required to receive, identify, locate, retrieve and sort materials.

  • Will be required to operate the rotary (15k) lift, as well as being qualified to burn items with a torch
  • Empty all facility scrap bins into designated dumpsters according to material type
  • Enter scrap tickets and provide them to the payroll department
  • Coordinate dumpster swaps and disposition of larger scrap material

This position requires work to be performed outside; involves adverse weather conditions (heat/cold/snow/rain/wind, etc.)

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility

in North Kingstown, RI location.



Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR 2 plus years of related technical experience
  • Previous forklift experience
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to timely obtain an EB Forklift license for electric, propane or diesel fork lifts with a capacity of up to 15k
  • Must be available to work all shifts, and work in extreme temperature & weather conditions as required
  • Ability to interpret shipyard procedures, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams
  • Must be able to handle/lift heavy items within the safety guidelines

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of metal types
  • Previous material handling experience
  • Experience loading and unloading flatbed
  • The ability to operate various burning equipment (Oxy Torch)
  • Military/Navy experience
  • Previous military shipbuilding experience
  • Ship yard
  • Salvage yard experience
  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs


Skills

  • Must possess basic mathematical, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong commitment toward safety
  • Applicant will be required to work independently as well as in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
