The School of Health Sciences at Winston Salem State University is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Professional Development. This role is essential in shaping and enhancing the student experience, focusing on recruitment, progression, and retention of health sciences students at all degree levels and professional development for health sciences faculty.

The Mission of the School of Health Sciences is to produce highly educated, motivated and clinically competent graduates for careers in Nursing and various other healthcare professions to include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Healthcare Administration and more.

Overview of Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:


  • Oversee student success initiatives within the School of Health Sciences, including processes related to academic advising, career services, and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement comprehensive support systems for students that leads to improved graduation rates and increase success rates on professional licensure exams across disciplines.


Strategic Planning:

  • Champion data-driven decision-making, assessing outcomes to continuously enhance student processes and experiences.
  • Serve as a Watermark superuser by guiding department chairs and designee on timely completion of departmental Planning and Self-Study using Watermark; inputting data obtained from the dean for the SOHS level; and keeping the dean abreast of progress made by departments.
  • Using EAB data to assess various areas like retention rates, student performance, and engagement metrics and make actionable recommendations for the Dean to consider.
  • Design and execute strategies to improve student recruitment, retention, and graduation rates in alignment with the university's goals.

Budget Management:

  • Fiscal management of the overall budget for the School of Health Sciences Designs, implements and oversees financial systems for budget planning, management, monitoring, internal control, analysis and reporting for all School accounts.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for student success initiatives and professional development programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and effective allocation of resources.
  • Monitor and report on budget expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings and recommending the reallocation of funds to high-impact programs.
  • Collaborate with university financial officers to secure funding for new initiatives and assess the financial feasibility of proposed programs.

Professional Development:

  • Lead initiatives that promote professional development opportunities for students, including internships, workshops, and networking events.
  • Support faculty development in areas related to student engagement and success.

Collaboration and Innovation:

  • Work closely with university leadership, particularly the Vice Provost for Student Success alongside the SOHS's deans and department chairs, and faculty of the SOHS to align student success initiatives with institutional priorities.
  • Integrate innovative technology solutions to enhance student engagement and academic support.

Monday - Friday 8am-5pm; some weekend days may be required for campus events
Department Required Skills
Education:
Master's degree in a relevant health sciences or business management field
Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, particularly in student services, faculty professional development, or academic advising in higher education.
  • Demonstrated strong foundation in budget management
  • Proven track record of success in enhancing student outcomes and academic support.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Doctorate degree in relevant health sciences and Master's degree in business related field
  • Budget certification such as CBA with at least three years of relevant experience.


Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent data analysis capabilities and experience in strategic planning.
  • Ability to foster cross-campus collaboration and lead institutional change.
