Job Title: Assistant Chief of Police Department: Mercer Police College/Division: General University Primary Job Posting Location: Macon, GA 31207 Additional Job Posting Locations: (Other locations that this position could be based) Job Details: Mercer University is searching for an Assistant Chief of Police Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief of Police serves as the second-highest-ranking law enforcement officer for Mercer University. This position supports the Chief of Police in managing the operations and strategic direction of the University Police Department. This role provides leadership in planning, organizing, and directing campus law enforcement, public safety initiatives, and community engagement programs, as well as overseeing daily police operations and managing complex administrative and supervisory functions. The Assistant Chief ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws while promoting a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion that supports the mission of Mercer University. The Assistant Chief also serves as Acting Chief in the Chief's absence. Major duties include:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field and three years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including supervisory roles or command-level role with demonstrated use of law enforcement technology systems, are required. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Additionally, candidates must be P.O.S.T. certified in Basic Law Enforcement. Preferred Qualifications:
