Position description

The Division of Undergraduate Education has an opening for a lecturer during the 2026 Winter and Spring Quarters (Beginning of January through June of 2026) for the following two-course sequence: "UNI STU H30B - Environmental Issues Affecting the Sustainability of Societies I" and "UNI STU H30C - Environmental Issues Affecting the Sustainability of Societies II." This team-taught course sequence focuses on several environmental challenges facing the world today, exploring the problems, possible solutions, and their scientific, technical, and social constraints. H30B examines key environmental challenges, while H30C focuses on how we can use Earth's resources, such as food and water, in a more sustainable way. Models for systems, their assumptions, predictive uncertainty, and interpretation play a large role throughout both courses. The curriculum includes core lectures on essential topics (such as policy options for climate change action) as well as flexibility for instructors to contribute specialized lectures based on their research expertise. In addition, these courses provide students with an opportunity to develop their communication skills through working on a variety of written, oral, and video presentations, projects, and active learning assessments.

Applications should be submitted online at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09944. Please submit a cover letter describing your relevant expertise and interests, a curriculum vitae, and names and contact information of three references. A Teaching Statement and Statement of Research are optional.

Questions about the position may be addressed to Brandon Golob of the Division of Undergraduate Education at bgolob@uci.edu. Questions about submission or receipt of applications can be addressed to Cristi Nunez at cjhutchi@uci.edu or 949-824-2278.
