Position Overview The General Maintenance Repair Tech Sr - Instrumentation position is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems), with the employee being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles. Job Description 50% - Follows an established inspection routine in an assigned group of buildings or equipment. Performs repairs to various mechanical, electrical, generator, plumbing and structural equipment. Performs lubrication, cleaning inspection, changes belts and filters in equipment. Performs repairs on heating ventilating and air conditioning units, electric motors, gear reducer, air compressors, various electrical and pneumatic control components. 40% - Responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities or equipment failure. Resets breakers, helps repair leaks in water or air lines. Repairs are performed as time and expertise permits. May assist Central Shop staff with more complex repairs. 5% - Other Related Work as Assigned: Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment. 5% - Performs other related work as assigned. Position Requirements Reach, grasp, hold, lift and place moderately heavy loads and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation. Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures (hot and cold) inside and outdoors. Operate work issued vehicles for transporting staff and materials Work occasional planned and unplanned overtime as needed including responding to after-hours emergencies as needed. Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather. Must have a valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain that license throughout employment. Must digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required. Required Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency. Three (3) years of experience in a skilled craft area. Certificate from a vocational school or an associate's degree in a building or mechanical trade area may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Must have a valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of generator and/or life safety systems experience. Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades as evidenced by application materials. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades as evidenced by application materials. Ability to read and correctly interpret blueprints, electrical or plumbing schematics as demonstrated by work experience. Experience working in a college or university setting as evidenced by application materials.
