Hornblower is seeking a Human Resources Assistant for our Alcatraz Cruises operation in San Francisco CA.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Human Resources Assistant administers and communicates policies and procedures relating to all phases of human resources activity, including recruitment, new hire orientations, benefits, employee records and performs administrative duties as assigned. Full time position, $24/hour, company-paid benefits.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Assist HR Manager with employee records and Personnel Forms.
  • Responds to basic employee inquiries regarding benefits, time & leave and company policies and procedures.
  • Onboards new hires and conducts orientations.
  • Assist with new hire and recurring training as needed.
  • Track employee licenses, mandated training and update UKG regularly.
  • Assist with scheduling orientations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with vacation, sick leave, and leave of absence policies and maintains appropriate records for employee time off in coordination with the payroll department.
  • Maintain employee records, including employee personnel files including disability, and workers compensation, I-9, insurance enrollment, and all other employee records to ensure accuracy as per our company policy and legal requirements.
  • Compile data from personnel records and prepare reports, including employment verification letters and notices.
  • Log information in training/license matrix in coordination with the HSSQE Department.
  • Ensure and verify all new hires are entered in the payroll system accurately.
  • Conduct periodic inventory of all uniform items, order items as needed, track distribution, organize and store in uniform closet.
  • Assist in administering drug testing program, ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations and laws.
  • Report employee accidents to Workers Comp or Jones Act insurance carriers.
  • Assist with benefit administration and answering all crew inquiries regarding benefits.
  • Process crew terminations.
  • Ensure shared space, conference rooms and areas in the office are kept tidy.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of training stations.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.


Requirements & Qualifications:



  • 1 year of administrative experience.
  • HR experience preferred.
  • HS Diploma or Equivalent; Some college preferred.
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Self-starter that can take initiative on variety of tasks and projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and focus.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality and privacy of others in addition to company documents and records when privy to sensitive information.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, organize and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
  • Customer centric approach to building crew relationships.
  • Availability M-F onsite
  • At least 18 years of age
