The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are seeking Building Energy Analyst (Entry Level) to join our Remote Operations Center team as a part of our growing ActiveOps division located in Tampa, FL. McKinstry has a unique perspective on the life of a building, and our Technical Services suite of owner-direct offerings assists clients in making the best decisions to improve the efficiency, comfort, sustainability, and lifespan of their building.

The Florida Remote Operations Center (ROC) provides solutions for building mechanical & automation systems and operations support. Our team focuses on optimizing the performance, efficiency, and longevity of systems within the built environment. We perform various services like occupant comfort & IAQ issue diagnosis & resolution, UI graphics enhancement, systems engineering & standardization, integration, and technical support.

As a Building Energy Analyst, you will support the team by analyzing building data to identify trends and anomalies, handling administrative tasks such as documentation and scheduling, and assisting Remote Operations Specialists and Engineers with day-to-day projects. In this role you will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists eager to mentor in an industry with high job security and rapidly increasing demand. This entry-level role is ideal for someone eager to learn about engineering, the built environment, robotics & automation systems, energy & sustainability, and more while contributing to remote troubleshooting, data reporting, and operational efficiency in sectors like healthcare, critical facilities, higher education, and K-12.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist in data acquisition, basic analysis, and preparation of reports using tools like Excel.
  • Support administrative tasks, including organizing documentation, managing schedules, and coordinating with team members on workflow.
  • Help with remote troubleshooting by gathering information on BAS performance issues under the guidance of Specialists and Engineers.
  • Contribute to team projects by providing entry-level technical support, such as basic data entry, monitoring system feeds, and assisting with UI graphics or integration tasks.
  • Collaborate with BAS contractors and client technicians on routine tasks to ensure optimized system performance. Client Deliverable Review/Generation.
  • Building Connect/Data feed Acquisition, Analysis, and Reporting.
  • Drive best in class customer service.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and do your own research science/engineering related topics.
  • Ability to provide support in the field for mechanics, engineers, and technicians as a part of hands-on training.
  • Must be physically capable of safely lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. without assistance. Must be comfortable and capable to work on ladders of various heights. Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods of time.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Technical degree (bachelor's degree in data or engineering is preferred), or equivalent work experience demonstrating progressive growth and responsibility.
  • Powerful curiosity for how the physical forces that govern our natural world work.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and similar tools.
  • Capability to process fast paced triage of incoming client work orders
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience, such as internships or entry-level roles in data analysis, administrative support, or building systems (HVAC or BAS exposure preferred but not mandatory).
  • Understanding of building efficiency and basic design principles and standards
  • Above average proficiency in computer technologies and applications.
  • Ability to follow instructions, triage basic issues, and document findings under supervision.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and support portfolio-wide schedules.
  • Adaptability and a proactive mindset to assist in a fast-paced, technical environment.
  • Good communication skills for teaming and interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail for data analysis and administrative tasks.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Excel or introductory experience with Tableau/Power BI is a plus.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.64 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
