Enbridge Gas Ohio is seeking a Senior Counsel with extensive experience in providing comprehensive regulatory, litigation, and commercial legal support. The Senior Counsel role will focus on managing and resolving regulatory issues and filings for Enbridge Gas Ohio and advising internal clients on legal and risk analyses.

Here's what you will do:

  • Provide legal advice and regulatory support to Enbridge Gas Ohio in regulatory proceedings and related legal proceedings. Provide same as required to other Enbridge Gas Distribution & Storage (GDS) businesses. Counsel internal clients expertly and reliably.

  • Supervise and litigate regulatory proceedings and related legal proceedings, provide counseling on such matters, and manage internal and external legal resources for these matters.

  • May manage paraprofessionals and may train or supervise less experienced lawyers.

  • Direct, monitor and coordinate outside counsel and internal resources who provide legal services.

  • Draft, review and negotiate legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, draft order licenses, easements, leases, sales and service agreements, copyright and trademark registrations, public permits and other public-way applications, and other documents, with particular focus on regulatory implications.

  • Counsel and advise clients on regulatory, legal, and external affairs matters, and develop strategies within overall business plan context.

  • Conduct legal, legislative and regulatory jurisdiction screens and monitor relevant jurisdictions for legal, policy and regulatory risks and opportunities.

  • Contribute to business-unit strategy and provide clients with legal and risk analyses and recommended courses of action.

  • Duties may also include defending and responding to discovery, hiring outside experts, coordinating company experts, preparing witnesses for depositions and hearing testimony, and overall responsibility for developing strategy for trial or settlement

Who You Are:

You have:

  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and are licensed to practice law in Ohio or willing to become licensed.

  • 8 years of experience, including at least 3-4 years in regulatory contexts.

  • Experience with, and knowledge of, state public utility laws, regulations, processes, issues, and other legal matters related to the public utility and energy industry.

  • Ability to understand, apply, and coordinate with strategic business values and objectives.

  • Broad understanding of laws and regulations, and a thorough understanding of public utility regulatory law.

  • Good analyst, advocate, and presenter of legal points.

  • Mastery of skills of the Counsel-level position.

  • Independent and motivated, requiring little supervision.

  • Exhibits good people skills, strong business sense, and familiarity with the industry and regulatory process.

  • Independent judgement and initiative, and able to work directly with clients.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a team and influence without authority.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally

  • Typical office work environment.

  • Travel up to 25%.

Physical Requirements:

Include but are not limited to: Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
