Position/Department Summary
Boston Children's Hospital recently completed a major enterprise EHR system initiative (Project Mosaic) in June 2024. Project Mosaic was an 18-month implementation of a new unified EHR platform consolidating two systems into Epic.

The IT Epic Manager for Hospital Billing and Claims will lead an established hybrid remote team through support and maintenance activities, optimization efforts, and various IT projects, serving as the liaison between hospital departments and IT leadership.

The ideal candidate has experience with remote workforces, meeting goals, managing multiple priorities, delegating duties, and building personal and team accountability. They will create a high level of trust with customers and within the team by holding themselves and others to the highest values of respect, inclusivity and diversity, teamwork, and kindness.

This position is a hybrid role with on-site presence required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively engage with internal clients and stakeholders to understand current and future operational needs. Apply deep domain knowledge, a consultative approach, and experience with EHRs across related applications to best address business needs.

  • Manage and prioritize workload and assignments of team members to meet business needs. Provide input into department goals. Ensure the team has appropriate resources and highlight areas of need to management for resolution. Regularly report on the productivity, progress, and effectiveness of the team in comparison to established performance metrics.

  • Guide analysts through the design, build/configuration, testing, and deployment of the team's core Epic applications, features, and integrations with other supported systems/applications. Perform advanced configuration (or customization, as necessary) to address business needs.

  • Manage implementation of application changes with third-party systems to ensure integration. Assess or guide others in the assessment of significant integration requirements for the team's core Epic applications. Identify and recommend changes or customizations. Maintain, upgrade, and test all third-party integrations.

  • Identify opportunities for system optimization based on business needs, new and existing EHR functionality, and industry trends.

  • Utilize the Jira ticket system to prioritize and track support/maintenance tickets, manage incoming requests, and ensure timely resolution.

  • Manage the team's efforts in support of upgrades. Coordinate with project managers to establish deliverables for upgrade tasks and assigned release notes.

  • Establish and maintain open communication channels with staff. Facilitate team meetings to discuss deliverable status, shared issues, end-user concerns, and upcoming milestones. Serve in a lead role in presentations to senior leadership on key project updates, Epic optimizations, issues, and industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in EHR application implementation and/or support, including responsibility for complex builds and integrations.

  • Proven experience managing multiple EHR applications through various phases.

  • Experience in operational domains such as finance/billing or registration/scheduling.

  • Prior management experience preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Master's Degree preferred.

Certifications:

  • Epic certification in either Resolute Hospital Billing Administration or Resolute Hospital Billing Claims and Remittance Administration required.
