About The Role

This role will provide strategy, leadership and oversight into the planning, execution, and delivery of SIR program operations, and ensuring alignment with the organizations' strategic objectives. Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the Environmental Site investigation and Remediation function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved.

Actively ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental laws, policies, and regulatory requirements. Develop, represent and defend the Company's position on all matters related to SIR in rate case proceedings and other regulatory initiatives and processes.

The Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) Program Director will be responsible for the oversight and management of all personnel engaged in environmental investigation and remediation projects in the New York region.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding and experience with strategic planning, the environmental investigation and remediation industry, managerial budgeting, goal setting, tracking and reporting, and the ability to communicate effectively with Internal and External stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement program strategies, goals, and objectives, ensuring they support the overall business strategy
  • Manage and allocate resources across projects within the program, ensuring optimal utilization and addressing any resource constraints
  • Creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Engage with key internal stakeholders, including executives, project managers, vendors and suppliers, to ensure clear communication and alignment on program goals and progress
  • Coordinate with management, finance, communications, community relations/public affairs teams and legal specialists develop and implement corporate SIR plan including enforcing project cost estimation procedures and controls
  • Educate key external stakeholders and regulatory authorities on projects, specifically keeping them informed of project updates, limitations, and opportunities.
  • Liaise with City, State and Federal elected and regulatory officials in collaboration with the corporate affairs teams.
  • Respond effectively to community concerns and constituent issues in collaboration with the corporate affairs team.
  • Establish National Grid as a leader in SIR work statewide.
Further Accountabilities
  • Provide financial governance over the multi-billion dollar portfolio of projects ensuring accuracy, transparency, and accountability.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for Environmental Operations, aligning with regulatory, governmental, and corporate strategy.
  • Oversee a robust internal control framework that ensures procedures are executed properly. Challenge the team to ensure they are validating all engineering assumptions are accurate and meet our standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with the program, ensuring proactive measures are in place to address potential issues
  • Assist in the reassessment and review of more complex and significant remedial cost estimates and estimate updates
  • Present estimates and support documents to management and stakeholders, clearly communicating the rationale behind all cost assumptions, rate case support and the basis for any significant estimate changes
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the program, providing regular updates and reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Lead and mentor team managers, project managers and team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, environmental sciences/Engineering
  • Master's or Law degree preferred
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in leading an environmental remediation function estimating environmental remediation or construction projects, with at least 10 years in a leadership role
  • Experience managing technical, safety and financial aspects of SIR projects
  • Exposure to legal and public aspects
  • Independent regulatory interaction
  • Experience in rate case process, portfolio risk/prioritization/mitigation
  • Demonstrable experience in external engagement in a hyper political environment
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)/program Management Professional (PgMP) certification and/or an MBA is preferred
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and environmental remediation standards is a must.
  • Successful candidate may be required to register as a lobbyist under NYS law.
  • Ability to anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues
  • Problem solving, and recommending process, product or service improvements
  • Able to solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
  • Lead the development of functional strategy
