Primary Purpose of Department
The Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS) office promotes environmental, health, and safety compliance within the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus community. The University is committed to the protection of the environment and safety on the job is everyone's responsibility. The EHS office provides guidance at all levels of the University to ensure compliance, maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain environment, health, and safety compliance at
UNC Charlotte. The goal of this position is to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the faculty, staff students, and visitors.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • Administer Injury and Illness Prevention, Personal Protective Equipment, Ergonomics, Hand/Power Tools, Sanitation and Ergonomics programs.
  • Assist with the monitoring of other Health and Safety programs such as Lockout-Tagout, Indoor Air Quality, and Hearing Conservation.
  • Develop online safety educational materials and facilitate classroom safety training sessions.
  • Conduct injury incidents and accident investigations.
  • Perform workplace hazard assessments.
  • Conduct safety inspections to identify and correct hazardous conditions.
  • Respond to emergencies and customer safety service requests.
  • Continuously monitor safety performance and draft reports.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience and knowledge administering Injury and Illness Prevention, Personal Protective Equipment, Ergonomics, Hand/Power Tools, Sanitation and Ergonomics programs.
  • Experience and knowledge conducting safety inspections to identify and correct hazardous conditions as well as performing workplace hazard assessments and conducting injury incidents and accident investigations.
  • Experience and knowledge with monitoring of other Health and Safety programs such as Lockout-Tagout, Indoor Air Quality, and Hearing Conservation.
  • Experience and knowledge with developing online safety educational materials and facilitate classroom safety training sessions.
