Hourly Pay Range:

$26.61 - $39.92 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

What you will do:

  • Delivers care to the patient immediately prior to, during, and immediately following the HBO treatment that is consistent with existing protocols within his/her scope of practice.
  • Documents all aspects of care provided to patients before, during, and after a treatment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the approved clinical indications and treatment protocols for HBO treatment.
  • Monitors and ensures the proper delivery of treatment gas as ordered.
  • Monitors the patients continually during treatments for symptoms of oxygen intolerance, claustrophobia, hypoglycemic reactions, decompression sickness, or any other adverse reaction to HBO treatments.
  • Under the direction of the Hyperbaric Physician or designee, appropriately intervenes in the event of an adverse reactions and follows established protocols.
  • Demonstrates competence in reinforcing age-specific patient and family education on common topics related to the HBO therapy and related underlying disease processes.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing ordered treatments including but not limited to vital signs, blood sugars, wound care, and emergency procedures consistent with existing protocols and within his/her scope of practice.
  • Documents required elements of each treatment in a clear, concise manner that includes a description of the chamber settings, duration of treatment, patient response to the procedure, and any other relevant observations made.
  • Demonstrates and applies basic knowledge about HBO chamber operations to ensure efficacy of treatment and safety of the patient and those in the immediate area.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the basic physiological principles/concepts of the HBO treatment and incorporates them into the treatment process.
  • Operates controls to pressurize and depressurize the chamber according to prescribed protocols for clinical indications and physician orders.
  • Maintains accurate logs and records of the time, pressures, depths, etc. of chamber operations according to established protocols.
  • Performs maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems under the guidance of the Clinical Manager or designee.
  • Cleans chamber following each treatment, according to recommendation of manufacturer, and in accordance with established facility infection control policies.
  • Maintains emergency equipment and supplies located in the HBO area. Documents equipment checks as required by established protocol.
  • Actively participates in the unit-based quality improvement program by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information tracked through a quality management program.
  • Participates in safety training and emergency drills, keeping current documentation of all training activities, equipment maintenance, and infection control.
  • Demonstrates awareness of his/her responsibility to facilitate patient care through accurate, clear, concise and timely written and oral communications
  • Documents accurately, legibly and promptly all patient related information.
  • Reports any untoward events or unusual observations related to patient care to the appropriate individual to facilitate review and adjustment of the plan of care as needed. Reporting is done directly or via the telephone and is completed in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates discussion between the patient and physician, and responds accurately and in a timely manner to patient questions with direct information and/or referral to the appropriate source if additional information is required.
  • Assumes an active role in the department by attending and participating in staff meetings, inservices, and other related activities.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work to provide patient care in a safe environment to maximize health in the continuum of care and to protect the patient, him/herself, coworkers, and others involved in the care of the patient.
  • Utilizes safe procedures in infection control, exposure control, use of equipment and supplies, and in facility emergency, safety, fire and disaster plans, adhering to guidelines or standards of practice in the community, hospital, and all current HBO policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all chamber equipment and associated supplies.
  • Participates in the preventative maintenance of equipment and documents as per established procedure.

What you will need:

  • Minimum Education level of High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in Hyperbaric Technology preferred or ability to acquire such certification in a reasonable period of time.
  • Preferred but not required: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic with current state license in good standing or C.N.A with IDPH certification in good standing.
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Candidate must have at least one-year experience in patient care environment and/or medical hyperbaric experience.
  • Working knowledge of various control systems of the chamber or ability to acquire such knowledge in a reasonable period of time.
