Tool Crib Clerk



Position Profile:

This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the Tool Room which supports machine shop operations for Marotta Controls, Inc. The candidate must have worked in a manufacturing environment and have a broad knowledge of cutting tools used in the processes of machining parts. The candidate must also display basic skills in blueprint reading, measuring techniques and CNC machine set up and operation.


Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Some machining experience
  • Understanding of working with blueprint drawings
  • Demonstrated effective verbal/written communication skills required for interacting with all levels of personnel within the organization.
  • Computer literate, with MS Office experience and basic PC skills
  • Must be a US Citizen



Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


Tool Setter Responsibilities:


  • Ensure all work complies with specifications and company requirements including mil-specs
  • Select and set up tools in tool holders for CNC lathes and millers using templates, measuring instruments, and hand tools
  • Utilize various measuring instruments
  • Maintain accurate counts and inventories
  • Break down and clean tools
  • Remove unnecessary items from previous jobs
  • Inspect workpieces for defects, and measure workpieces to determine accuracy of machine operation, using rules, templates, or other measuring instruments


Clerical Responsibilities:


  • Receive, store, and issue hand tools, machine tools, dies, materials, and equipment
  • Maintain records of tools and equipment issued and returned
  • Locate lost or misplaced tools and equipment
  • Prepare periodic inventory or maintains perpetual inventory of tools and equipment
  • Receive, unpack, and store incoming tools and equipment, and requisitions stock to replenish inventory
  • Inspect and measure tools and equipment for defects and wear, visually or using micrometer, and reports damage or wear to supervisors.
  • Repair, service, and lubricate tools and equipment
  • Deliver tools or equipment to workers, manually or using hand truck
  • Mark and identify tools and equipment, using identification tag, stamp, or electric marking tool
  • Perform troubleshooting activities to resolve issues and provide improvement recommendations
  • Ensure that tooling/machine shop related activities are coordinated, executed, documented (as required) and brought to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals within the Marotta organization.
  • Support Engineering department with basic data entry/job analysis

  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Ensure self, and personnel company-wide, are abiding by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals
  • Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed)
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.



Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • Some travel may be required for this position (5-10%)


Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.

    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


  • The employee is regularly required to stand at length (7-8 hours, daily), sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push, pull and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds

Pay Range: $23-31
