Precollegiate Program

Job Description

The Associate Director supports the Executive Director in sustaining and advancing the award-winning Office of Precollegiate Student Services, serving the St. Louis community. This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships across the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus and with community partners. The Associate Director assists in the day-to-day management of the office, including supervision of staff, oversight of student and parent programming, and coordination of after-school and community-based initiatives.

The position requires strategic leadership, sound judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of departmental operations to ensure the effective delivery of programs that prepare students for postsecondary success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide collaborative leadership to all Precollegiate Student Services programs and staff, ensuring responsiveness, transparency, and consistency across operations.
  • Ensure all daily operations align with university, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of departmental strategic goals and performance benchmarks.
  • Serve as a resource and advisor by interpreting and explaining policies, procedures, and program expectations.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational or technical challenges to maintain program excellence.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships across UMSL and the St. Louis community to support students' seamless transition to college.
  • Oversee data collection and analysis for internal assessments and external reporting to state and foundation partners; recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Communicate program performance data to the Executive Director to support departmental evaluation and accountability.
  • Coordinate and implement a range of academic enrichment and outreach programs for students and families within the community.
  • Cultivate and sustain positive relationships with secondary schools, community organizations, and external partners.
  • Provide guidance to prospective and current participants, offering information on campus resources, program offerings, and college planning.
  • Lead and support student recruitment and retention efforts, including organizing workshops, information sessions, and community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve programmatic and institutional objectives.
  • Assist in budget oversight and fiscal management, ensuring compliance and responsible stewardship of program resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

  • Applies deep understanding of university operations and how Precollegiate Services integrates within broader institutional objectives.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to professional staff and colleagues, promoting an inclusive and high-performing team culture.
  • Develops and administers policies and practices that align with university standards and strategic priorities.
  • Anticipates operational challenges and adapts plans, budgets, and priorities to meet both short- and long-term goals.
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making, influencing others across departments and external networks to achieve program excellence.

Supervision
Works independently under the general guidance of the Executive Director; operates within university and departmental policies and priorities. Manages professional staff; accountable for team performance, outcomes, and adherence to departmental objectives.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday through Friday. Some evenings and Saturdays.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in admissions, recruitment, student program development, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, work collaboratively with stakeholders, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $69,097.60 - $85,000.00 per year
